Family Owned Over 40 Years
Over a Century of History
Roderick A. Clark
In 1862, Roderick A. Clark was one of the first in a group of volunteers to enlist in the Union Army. As a Sergeant in Company F, 14th/Regiment of the New Jersey Volunteers, he was wounded at the Battle of Monocacy Junction and thus began receiving an $18 per month pension from the U.S. government in 1863.
16 years later on July 1, 1879, Mr. Clark purchased a wooded parcel of land on the Manasquan River for $1,141 (only one dollar more than the next best offer) and developed the area into one of the finest tourist spots in the area.
Clarks Landing began as a boat-building business but soon evolved into much more than that. Being located in such a gorgeous location, it became a popular recreational spot for families from all over the state. They would come for boating, fishing, crabbing, canoeing, swimming, picnicking, dancing, and bathing.
The Victorian Destination
Entertaining In the Late 1800s
In the late 19th century, a pavilion was built on the riverfront, featuring attractions such as a steam organ and an electric merry-go-round. By 1903, the popularity of outdoor music prompted the construction of more pavilions and a dance platform.
Rosia Clark, Roderick's son, joined the family business in the 1920s. During this period, sailing regattas flourished, fostering friendly rivalries on the Manasquan River.
Subsequent owners of Clarks Landing Yacht Sales, including H.R. Bills and Leonard Patrick, enhanced the establishment by adding summer cottages. With its convenient access to Treasure Island, the canal, and the upper reaches of the Manasquan River, Clarks is the ideal destination for a leisurely day.

Owned and operated by George Truesdale and his children, Clarks Landing has a rich history rooted in maritime tradition. Inspired by the property's heritage, George paid homage to the original founder, Roderick Clark, by incorporating his name into the business.
Today, Clarks Landing stands as a beacon of excellence, renowned for its exceptional NJ Marina, premier Yacht Sales, and exquisite wedding destination. Nestled within our full-service marina, our NJ Yacht Sales location offers unparalleled service and expertise, while also serving as a premier wedding venue.
